In the US, women sizes are 1.5 sizes larger than men for the same foot length. Men US 8 = Women US 9.5 for the same foot. Both use barleycorn (1/3 inch) increments starting from different baselines.
EU uses Paris Points (2/3 cm each). EU 42 = approximately 26.7 cm foot length. EU sizing is gender-neutral — the same scale applies to both men and women, unlike the US system which has separate scales.
