Convert between PSI, bar, Pascal, atmospheres, mmHg, and kilopascals. Used in engineering, tire pressure, weather forecasting, diving, and medical blood pressure measurements.
Pressure is used in many contexts: weather (atmospheric pressure in millibars or hPa), tire pressure (PSI or bar), blood pressure (mmHg), industrial systems (bar or Pascal), and scuba diving (bars of depth pressure). Different industries use different units.
PSI is the most common pressure unit in the US for tire pressure (30-35 PSI), hydraulic systems, and compressed air. 1 PSI = 6,894.76 Pascal = 0.0689476 bar. Standard car tire pressure: 32-35 PSI = 2.2-2.4 bar.
The bar is used widely in meteorology and engineering. 1 bar = 100,000 Pascal (Pa) = 100 kPa. Standard atmospheric pressure is 1.01325 bar = 1 atm = 101,325 Pa. Weather stations report pressure in hectopascals (hPa) where 1 hPa = 1 millibar (mbar).
Blood pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg). Normal blood pressure is 120/80 mmHg. 1 mmHg = 133.322 Pa = 0.001333 bar. The two numbers represent systolic (heart pumping) and diastolic (heart resting) pressures.
